Boxing in Newcastle upon Tyne
Boxers compete against each other in a ring (which can vary in size), and box for a number of ’rounds’ (which can vary in number and duration, ususally dependent on experience). Boxers use offensive and defensive techniques with the aim of hitting their opponent without getting hit back, and boxing is governed by a series of rules, called the ‘Marquess of Queensbury Rules’, which instill fairness into the sport. Whether you want to come in & join in on the boxing classes, learn the finer points of boxing like defence work, train to compete, get some personal or small group training, or organise a sports team session, Action boxing & fitness can cater to your needs! F.I.T Club was quick to outgrow its dance floor gymnasium and moved to its current premises at 10 High Bridge Street in June 1999 where a unique and customised gym experience is now what awaits any new recruits willing to take up the challenge! Boxing is a martial art and combat sport in which two people throw punches at each other, usually with gloved hands. Historically, the goals have been to weaken and knock down the opponent. Amateur boxing is both an Olympic and Commonwealth sport and is a common fixture in most international games—it also has its own World Championships. Boxing is supervised by a referee over a series of one- to three-minute intervals called rounds. The result is decided when an opponent is deemed incapable to continue by a referee, is disqualified for breaking a rule, resigns by throwing in a towel, or is pronounced the winner or loser based on the judges' scorecards at the end of the contest. In the event that both fighters gain equal scores from the judges, the fight is considered a draw.
