Frankenstein A Modern Prometheus

1 November @ 7:00 pm - 15 November @ 7:00 pm

£29.50 – £36.50

At the tender age of 18, Mary Shelley embarked on the creation of “Frankenstein, a Modern Prometheus,” a masterpiece published anonymously in London three years later, in 1818. Shelley’s European sojourn in 1815, meandering along the Rhine in Germany and pausing in Gernsheim near the infamous Frankenstein Castle, set the stage for her Gothic tale. Her travels also led her to Geneva, Switzerland, where the narrative unfolds amid discussions of galvanism and occult ideas among her companions, including her lover and future husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley.

The seeds of “Frankenstein” were sown in 1816 when Mary, Percy, John Polidori, and Lord Byron engaged in a competition to craft the most chilling horror story. After days of contemplation, Shelley found inspiration in the concept of a scientist creating life only to recoil in horror at his creation.

Presented in this new adaptation by Craig Wilde, known for “Dickens by Candlelight: A Christmas Carol,” the production endeavors to offer an authentic interpretation of Mary Shelley’s groundbreaking work—one of the earliest true science fiction tales. Set against the backdrop of Newcastle Castle – both inside and surround, this performance promises an electrifying and not-to-be-missed experience, capturing the essence and allure of Shelley’s timeless narrative.
