Police launch search for teenager, 15, in County Durham who went into river

A search has been launched after a 15-year-old went into the River Tees.

Multiple agencies are searching the area after the teenager went missing after going into the river at Broken Scar in Darlington at about 5pm on Monday.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “A multi-agency search operation is underway this evening following reports a teenager has gone into the River Tees at Broken Scar, Darlington.

“It is believed the 15-year-old got into difficulty shortly after 5pm.

“Durham Constabulary, Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, North East Ambulance Service, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team and underwater search teams are among those in attendance.

“His family have been informed and are being supported and kept up to date by officers.

“We know people may want to help with the search, but we would request people avoid the area at this time.”
