Sunday for Sammy DVD release date confirmed after virtual premiere

It’s the news that many fans have been waiting for as the release date for the new Sunday for Sammy has now been confirmed.

This year’s Geordie gala extravaganza was one of the last events to be held at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena before the coronavirus enforced-lockdown, led to the venue closing it doors an countless of shows being postponed.

Two packed audiences gathered for both a matinee and evening performance with Sunday for Sammy stalwarts like Tim Healy, Denise Welch and Billy Mitchell being joined by a host of big names including Johnny Vegas, Joe McElderry, Trevor Horn and Jimmy Nail, who made a comeback after a number of years away.

Highlights of Sunday for Sammy 2020 included Jimmy’s performance of his early 90s number 1 Ain’t No Doubt and a group rendition of Big River, which gave this year its most moving moment.

There was also high jinx from the likes of Johnny and Jason Cook and the return of Loose Women spoof Slack Lasses.

In the past, the DVD has been premiered at a star studded screening at the Customs House in South Shields but due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year the premiere happened virtually on Sunday night.

Many of the show’s stars tuned in to relive the action and it was also announced that people will be able to get their hands on the Sunday for Sammy DVD from Thursday, August 6.

It will be on sale from JG Windows in Newcastle and the Metrocentre and online HERE where you can also pre-order it.

It is priced £20 and news of its release received a warm welcome from fans, with the arena themselves commenting: “Yesss all over this!” and another tweeting: “This is the best SFS yet!!! Amazing production, acts, helpers and staff”
