Young Environmental Champion from Newcastle, Rob Sisson, to Represent at COP28

Rob Sisson from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne has been selected by Rotary as one of twelve young volunteers for the upcoming International Climate Summit COP28 in Dubai. His selection highlights his active involvement in environmental sustainability initiatives. The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly referred to as COP28, will be held from 30 November until 12 December 2023, at the Expo City, Dubai.

A member of Tyneside Rotaract Club and a committed volunteer, Sisson has contributed to numerous environmental projects, such as litter picks and nature reserve management. His achievements include co-founding a software company aiding social enterprises, creating an award-winning flood management solution, and providing pro-bono consultancy for impact-driven organizations. Additionally, in his role as a philanthropy consultant, he has helped distribute funds for addressing financial hardships and is launching ‘The Generous’ magazine to highlight global impact efforts.

Speaking about his upcoming participation in COP28, Sisson said, “I’m thrilled to be part of COP28, a significant milestone in my journey towards driving positive change. The summit provides a unique opportunity to share and emphasize grassroots volunteer efforts in driving sustainability. I’m looking forward to exchanging ideas with fellow change-makers from around the world and bringing back innovative approaches to enrich our local efforts.”

Rotary’s involvement in COP28 reflects its commitment to environmental sustainability and the role of younger generations in addressing climate change. “Rotary believes in the transformative power of youth to shape the environmental future,” said Rotary International President Gordon McInally. “These young leaders are not just attending a conference; they are there to ignite change, bring fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to the global platform.”

Rotary undertakes various environmental projects globally and has committed more than US$23.7 million toward impactful community-based environmental projects and scholarships for environmental careers. As he gears up for COP28, Sisson represents the potential of focused environmental activism to extend from local endeavors to international platforms.
